Empowering the Next Generation: 2026 Essay Contest

Our 2026 Scholarship Contest is now open to all Sussex County high school seniors! 

Students are asked to write a 750-1000 word essay explaining their answer to this question: 

"What keeps people your age from engaging in politics, and what would it take to get your generation more active in groups that support your beliefs? Tell us why your generation’s voice matters and how we can better encourage young people to show up, take action, and vote.”

Submissions are due by Friday, March 6, 2026. 

Two cash scholarships will be presented to the winners. 

  • First Place: $500
  • Second Place $250

Topic: "New Jersey will be electing a new Governor in 2025.  What are the most important issues facing New Jersey?  Why are these issues important?"

  • First Place: Sam Gatto, Sussex County Technical School (Now attending Rutgers University)
  • Second Place: Andrew Stone, Newton High School (Now attending University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill)

2024 Scholarship Winners

Topic: “Do local elections matter?  Why or why not?  How can voters be more engaged and inspired in local elections?”

  • First Place: Juliette Sanchez, Sparta High School (Now attending American University)
  • Second Place: Annalyse Tattoli, Kittatinny Regional High School (Now attending Sussex County Community College)
